Duranno Father School Awareness Campaign
Duranno Father School was established by Duranno in October 1995 in Seoul, Korea, in response to the growing national epidemic of abusive, ineffective, absentee fathers. Their aim is to change society by first changing fathers and helping men recover their identity as the backbone of the family. By rebuilding strong and healthy families, the communities will be transformed through the spread of this social campaign to every household in all nations.
We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Duranno Father's School for their awareness campaign video. This video will highlight and show the audience how impactful a father's role can be in a child's growth and character building.
The Pre-Production: Scripting
We began this project with specific goals in mind. First, we aimed to illustrate how parents can shape their children's attitudes. To do so, we presented two different fathers who contrasted one another. One father had a strong presence and positive attitude towards his child, which resulted in his daughter always smiling and having a positive impact on those around her. On the other hand, the other father had a negative attitude and showed disrespect towards his wife. We intentionally portrayed this negative behaviour to highlight its impact on the child's own attitude, leading him also to disrespect his mother, teacher, and even classmates.

Location Scouting
Next, we moved on to Location Scouting. We needed three specific locations for this project: an old wooden house, a meeting room/classroom, and a field. We took almost two weeks to find the right locations and contacted the person in charge to ask about their availability and arrange a time for location scouting.
Once we have secured the location, we proceed to find talent and schedule the actual shooting with the film crew. We also then schedule the talent after we have confirmed their availability.
Talent Search
Finding the right talent to fit the roles in your production is essential to make sure that the final product is of the highest quality. This process is often more time-consuming than anticipated, especially when the project requires a diverse group of individuals, such as in the case of this video involving two kids, one woman and multiple men.
We spent approximately two weeks combing through talent databases and auditioning actors, both for lead and supporting roles, in order to find the best fit for each character. The main character casting process alone took up a significant portion of that time, as it was important to carefully screen through the talent list and review their past projects to determine whether or not they would be able to bring the necessary depth and nuance to the characters in the story.
Actual day shooting:
On the day of the shoot, we arrived early at the location to set up lights and do some test shots with the actual equipment. Throughout the shoot, we used artificial lights, but we tried to make them look like natural light coming from the window. We insisted on artificial lights because they gave us full control over the intensity and angle.
We lit the classroom and meeting room with three different COB lights. We attached an octa softbox to the 300W COB light to soften the light and used diffusers for the other two lights to ensure that they were not too harsh. Using fluorescent lights from the room is definitely a no-go, as they produce strange color casts and harsh shadows. Such lights are intended for real-world use, not for filmmaking and video shooting.
For the house scenes, we used a combination of video lights and natural lighting and utilized diffusers to soften the natural light and create a gentle appearance. We also employed flags to create a more contrasty look, prevent camera lens flares, and reduce excessive spill light.
Last but not least, once the actors arrived on set, we gave them a short briefing about what to expect during the shoot to complete the shoot without any issues. We're grateful that everything went smoothly eventually.
