Sin May Teck

Sin May Teck was founded in 1994. They are an established import and export company that specializes in producing Chinese tea, Ceylon tea powder, and Hainanese coffee.

After their enquiry, we began by holding a meeting with the company to understand their goals. They expressed a desire to build a strong social media presence, as they had primarily focused on wholesale operations until then.

To address this, we propose creating a brand video to promote their three main product categories: Chinese tea, Ceylon tea powder, and Hainanese coffee.

Discovery Session

During the discovery session, we learned that the client's social media presence had been inactive. They expressed a desire to reshoot their website pictures to enhance its visual appeal. Additionally, they wanted to generate engaging content for Facebook and Instagram to reach a wider audience.

Our Approach

After the discovery session, we proposed two phases:

The first phase will focus on building the foundation. We will reshoot all the products and take photos of the interior of the company. Then, we will produce a brand video that introduces their company background. It is crucial for business development to show themselves to the public and explain what they do.

The second phase will take place in the second half of 2023. We will create short-form content to reach out to viewers and start a conversation with them using different types of social media.

Scripting for Brand Video

To begin the pre-production process for the brand video, we started with the scripting phase.
Our main goal was to effectively showcase their strengths. So we decided to showcase the tea-making process to highlight the company's involvement in every aspect of tea production. Additionally, we wanted to highlight their unique strength as the only tea company in Malaysia that stores tea in a large cold room, ensuring quality and controlling pricing.

Talent casting

We then proceeded with talent search and casting, which took about two weeks. Out of the 15 talents we contacted, we selected three individuals. In this whole process, clients are also involved because these talents represented their company, so they need to join the talent casting session as well. We also aimed to make it more diverse by featuring Malay and Indian talents.

Location Scouting

We dedicated a day to scouting the shoot location, which happened to be their warehouse.

During the location scout, we assessed the available spaces and took measurements to determine the necessary equipment, such as electricity, lighting stands, and lights. We also meticulously planned the shooting order, taking into consideration that it was a one-day shoot. We made sure to plan everything thoroughly so that nothing could go wrong.

Actual Shoot

On the day of the shoot, we unloaded our equipment upon arrival at the location. While the makeup artist worked with the talent, the crew reviewed the script and familiarized themselves with the location spots one last time. The director briefed the talent, and we commenced shooting, starting with the scene in the tea roasting room. Despite the intense heat in that area, we successfully captured the scene before the talent became too sweaty.

Post-Production

Moving on to post-production, we compiled the video snippets into a cohesive piece and performed color grading. The goal was to create a brighter tone, and we opted for a vintage look when discussing Chinese tea to evoke its historical significance.

Additionally, we adopted a style reminiscent of Chinese reality shows, which are characterized by saturated bright colors and comedic elements, to differentiate from traditional corporate video approaches.

Overall, we are pleased with the smooth shooting process and the client's satisfaction with the final outcome!
